Dr. Rubin is exploring the way the heart responds to injury and the regulation of the immune response to infection. His research has been widely published in high impact journals. Dr. Rubin and his laboratory continue to investigate the role of prostaglandins in left ventricular remodeling after myocardial infarction, and the role of phospholipase A2 enzymes in the innate immune response to bacterial infection.
Since receiving the Wylie Scholar award, Dr. Rubin has received 15 years of continuous funding from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and is the Senior Scientist at the Toronto General Research Institute. He was recently appointed the Medical Director of the Peter Munk Cardiac Center.
Dr. Rubin is the Chair and CEO of the UHN Academic Medical Organization, which manages the allocation of teaching, research, and innovation funds from the Ministry of Health to 750 physicians, and represents 4,000 academic physicians on the Ontario Academic Medicine Steering Committee, the mandate of which is to develop policy to advance the goals of academic medicine.
