CHAMPIONS

Your Health, Our Priority!

CHAMPIONS: Comprehensive Heart and Multidisciplinary Limb Preservation Outreach Networks

  • Community-based collaborative aimed at risk prediction and education across the United States

  • Addresses vascular health disparities through “pop-up” preventative health screening clinics, connection to community providers, and research

  • Began as a collaboration between UCSF and the Foundation to Advance Vascular Cures; our goal is to make screening low-cost and accessible nationwide, advancing the mission of equitable vascular healthcare.

Our Story

CHAMPIONS, founded by UCSF Fresno vascular surgeon Dr. Leigh Ann O’Banion in 2021 to provide cardiovascular screening in the Central Valley of California, is now a partnership between UCSF and the Foundation to Advance Vascular Cures. Drawing on the success of CHAMPIONS in California, they are transforming CHAMPIONS into a national program that includes (1) training of volunteers and attendees; (2) equipment for cardiovascular screenings; (3) educational materials translated into over 10 languages; and (4) a structure for evaluation and research aimed to address health disparities and increasing vascular health across all communities.
