Sean English, MD, from the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis has been named the 2017 Wylie Scholar by Vascular Cures and the Society for Vascular Surgery. He is the 20th Wylie Scholar and the 4th from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. The Wylie Scholar program was established in 1996 and awards three-year $150,000 grants to young vascular surgeon-scientists to pursue innovative patient-centered projects.
Dr. English’s research goal is to develop new ways to diagnose and limit the development of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) by assessing ways to neutralize a signaling molecule involved in the growth and rupture of AAAs, which have a mortality rate over 90%.
